Il Fosos Square once again played host to an unforgettable night as Isle of MTV – one of Europe’s most hotly anticipated musical extravaganzas – lit up the beautiful Mediterranean island of Malta for a fifth consecutive year. With the sun setting and as night began to fall in the stunning square, a crowd of more than 50,000 music fans were thrilled by incredible live performances from Snoop Dogg, Far East Movement, LMFAO and Parade, crowning Isle of MTV as THE free European outdoor summer music event of 2011.
Hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg is one of the world’s original ultimate entertainers. The multi-award winning rapper, producer and actor has recently released his 11th studio album, Doggumentary and this hugely successful musical experimentation of unpredictable collaborations with international artists has emphasised his ability to stay at the forefront of popular culture.
Pulling inspiration from a variety of musical legends such as Michael Jackson, James Brown and The Beatles, electro-rap duo LMFAO have created their own musical style known as ‘party rock’. Their hit single Party Rock Anthem propelled them onto the international stage in 2011, taking the number one spot in ten countries.
Born from the dynamic LA club scene, Far East Movement have turned their unique blend of hip-hop, pop, electro and dance into party anthems. Bridging the gap between underground party records and mainstream hip-hop and pop, they have created their own original sound and lifestyle they call ‘Free Wired’.
British girl group Parade came to the forefront of the UK music scene in April 2011 with their debut single Louder and they have just released their follow up single, Perfume. The five fashionistas epitomise British style and are set to become the next big thing.
Previous performers at the Isle of MTV main event include Lady Gaga, The Black Eyed Peas, David Guetta, Kelis, Scissor Sisters, The Chemical Brothers, Enrique Iglesias, N*E*R*D, Shaggy, Garbage, Jazzy Jeff, Gorillaz, OneRepublic and Morcheeba.
Past Isle of MTV main event locations have included Torre de Belém, Lisbon, Portugal (2002); Ile du Gaou, Six-Fours Les Plages, France (2003); Tossa De Mar, Costa Brava, Spain (2004); Piazza dell Unita’ d’Italia, Trieste, Italy (2005); Floriana, Malta (2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010).
