Nielsen SoundScan has released its annual report on the previous year in the music industry, and Eminem's Recovery was the top-selling record in 2010. Em sold 3,415,000 copies of Recovery last year, while his collaboration with Rihanna, "Love The Way You Lie," was the #3 digital single of the year, with 4,245,000 copies sold. Recovery was also the best-selling digital album of the year, with 852,000 copies sold digitally. Eminem was overall the second-best-selling artist of 2010. Em had the best-selling record of 2002 as well, with The Eminem Show.

Taylor Swift was the best-selling artist overall in 2010, with 4,470,000 units sold in total. She was the best-selling artist of 2008 as well, and the second-biggest seller of 2009 (behind Michael Jackson). Her latest album, Speak Now, was the #3 album of the year, with 2,960,000 copies sold. Speak Now was the second-best selling digital release of 2010, with 488,000 copies sold digitally. Nielsen's BDS data also showed that Swift was the most played artist at radio in 2010.

Katy Perry's "California Gurls" was the top-selling digital single of 2010, with 4,398,000 copies sold. Perry has just announced that "E.T." will be the fourth single from her hit record, Teenage Dream. Perry will also appear in an upcoming episode of CBS' How I Met Your Mother this season.
