Lana Del Rey: Born To Die
The viral vixen in this latest video continues to ooze that sultry 50-60's look that lives in the present. In one particular striking scene, she sits in a grand cathedral hall at the alter with tigers astride on either side of herself. Dressed in white, we can't quite decide if she is an angel or herself having left the mortal world or God himself. The message is clearly about our finite time in this world pertaining to the destruction and loss of everything we know from beauty, to relationships to our own lives. What's more interesting is her self awareness about our demise in all we do. She shows us moments of reminscing this universal paradox or simply living it despite knowing it will end soon. Driving to her own death with her boyfriend, she embraces this realization in a strangely macabre acceptance that sees her body bashed and bloodied despite her boyfriend emerging unscathed.
Full of paradox, beauty and Lana's unique sense of it all - she writes soberly:
"Don't make me sad, don't make me cry / Sometimes love's not enough when the road gets tough / I don't know why / Keep making me laugh, Let's go get high / Road's long, we carry on / Try to have fun in the meantime"
Lana Del Ray will be one to watch in 2012 having broken into mainstream cirles as MTV's PUSH Artist of the Month plus a fan base who has helped her original clip "Video Games" climb to almost 13 million hits on YouTube (no small feat for an emerging artist).
Her debut album also called Born To Die will release on January 31st.
