Nate Ruess, Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff are American indie pop band based in New York City with similar affinity for vintage pop music and quirky, melodic hooks.
Originally in seperate bands the three came together in unlikely circumstances proving more than just coincidence. In 2009 they released there first album, Aim and Ignite yet it wasn't until their second and present one Some Nights took their Queen and ELO-influenced big pop sound crossing it over into straight hip-hop. More than unlikely, the band caught the attention of Jeff Bhasker who previously had worked with Alicia Keys, Jay Z , Beyonce and Kanye West. What impressed Jeff was their huge sound so he decided to ..make it even bigger.
Success never comes easy but a year after their debut, they were opening for Paramore on their headlining tour and performing at Coachella along with The Strokes and Jay-Z. The combination of Jack, a whip-smart horn-rimmed glasses-wearing guitarist whose influences are Tom Waits, Jack White, and Neil Young with multi-instrumentalist Andrew who credits Weezer, ELO, and Claude Debussy as magor influencers plus Nate who just croons like nobody's business was more than enough to put them in the box of "unique."
"We Are Young" hit Number 1 in 7 countries (Australia, Ireland, Israel, Canada, U.s., Austria, Mexico) including the Billboard Hot 100.
Also recently, the super popular TV series “Glee” plucked “We Are Young” off Some Nights to cover on the show, an experience that was a complete surprise considering the band prides itself on appealing to any demographic that might feel disenfranchised or just plain odd.
MTV PUSH is more than proud to have Fun. as our May Artist of the month featuring "We Are Young," two live performances and a band interview - enjoy and ...have Fun.!
