What happens when you mix one of hip-hops legendary acts with one of the most exciting artists in modern dance music - raise your hands for Cypress Hill and Rusko with their latest video "Roll It, Light It." debuting Feb. 21st.
The collaboration is an exploration in the radically different that doesn't get more outside the box than hip-hop, rock and alternative meets dance floor, DJ/ dubstep. The result is an EP recorded over a six-month period with Rusko joining Cypress in the studio or sending tracks over the internet as time and touring permitted. Cypress Hill are known for their fall off the edge of the world kind of perspective which totally thrills and engages them in a win or die warfare.
“We’ve always been the type of group to take chances on doing something radically different than what people expect from us. So this carries with the tradition of us going out of the box. If it’s not something that we embrace then we don’t dare mess with it and this is something we fell right into the pocket of,” adds B-Real.
Adding to that is Sen Dog who talks about the natural progression of Dub-step in music which from our point of view is band on given the mainstream attention Skrillex received with 3 Grammys at the recent award show. "I think dubstep is a natural progression of hip-hop,” says Sen Dog. “Especially the way that we formulated it with Rusko, there’s definitely some roughness to it.”
"Roll It, Light It" is an up-tempo, high-energy worthy of these chameleonic musicians. Maybe slightly different but definitely in the - out of the box - collaboration which is exactly what they were looking for. "Roll It, Light It" will debut on Tuesday, February 21, WATCH NOW.
