An estimated 3,500 fans in Vancouver, Canada responded to an announcement on the band's official website to show up at GM Place venue at 3pm on Wednesday April 28th.
RollingStone.com reports that the impromptu audience was then shown into the venue for a gig-style video shoot for U2's next single, "City of Blinding Lights".
In addition to playing the single several times, the band also performed "Vertigo" and "All Because of You", encoring with "Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own".
RollingStone.com adds that Bono joked with The Edge that this shoot was in fact their "American Idol" audition, before they played the "Hokey Cokey" for the crowd.
"City of Blinding Lights" is expected to be released in mid June.
