Vampire Weekend have announced that they are currently writing new material for their third album.

Despite releasing their second LP Contra today, the US band revealed that work for their third record is already under way.

Bassist Chris Baio told The Aquarian Weekly: "I think we will be touring for the better part of next year, and I think we are already thinking about our next record.

"Thinking about recording and seeing how much we can actually get done with all the travelling. Yeah, that's the next step."

He added: "It's kind of just concepts right now, with little ideas. It's just starting now."
