16 and PREGNANT -LIFE AFTER LABOUR
This issue-driven, host-moderated, forum on teen pregnancy featured the "16 and Pregnant" season one families. All six of our girls and their children traveled to NYC to participate in this one-day event.
Dr. Drew discussed each girl's episode, specific issues and challenges, and updated us on what's going on now. The open discussion provided a platform to address many of the controversial topics that originated from season one's stories: birth control, adoption, abortion, marriage, religion, gossip, finances, high school graduation and employment.
Episode 106
16 and PREGNANT -CATELYNN
Catelynn is a high school junior from small-town Michigan. Tyler is her boyfriend of three years and her right-hand man. They're grateful for the support their relationship provides, because they don't find much of it elsewhere -- their families are dramatic, to say the least. Catelynn's mom has a short fuse and is unreliable. Tyler's dad's been in and out of prison. Now, in a bizarre twist of events, their two parents are in love and getting married, so life is that much weirder for the young couple. Then, on top of it all, Catelynn got some unexpected news one fall day -- she's going to have a baby.
Catelynn and Tyler aren't sure they're ready to have a family.
Their friends agree that it would be tough. Catelynn's mom, April,
is not supportive of adoption, and she tells Catelynn that she's
sure to change her mind when the time comes. Tyler's dad, Butch, is
even less supportive. He can't understand handing your baby to
perfect strangers. They decide to give the baby for adoption
against their parents wishes.

Episode 105
16 and PREGNANT -WHITNEY
Whitney is a shy southern belle from Rome GA. At 16, she lives in
her tiny family home with her mom and her grandmother (Meemaw). Oh,
and her boyfriend Weston and their dog Chumpy. Talk about a full
house! The house is about to get even more crowded, though - not
only is Whitney pregnant, but her mom is, too. All at once, Whitney
goes from being the pampered baby of the family, to being a big
sister and mother.
Over a hearty home-cooked breakfast, the family discusses their shock at first hearing that Whitney was pregnant, and that she was going to keep the baby. Whitney explains that seeing the ultrasound decided it -- once she saw the baby, she had to have him.

Episode 104
16 and PREGNANT - EBONY
Ebony is a teenage military brat from Colorado Springs, CO -- home of the Air Force. She lives at home with her mom and spends all her time with her fiancée, Josh. They're both in the JROTC and have big dreams of getting married and joining the Air Force together after high school. But now that Ebony is pregnant her senior year, everything may have to change.
Ebony was extremely athletic, the top female in her JROTC class. But at almost 7 months pregnant, it's all Ebony can do to squeeze in to her uniform. High school becomes a daily struggle, not just in terms of getting around physically, but in facing her peers and their outspoken opinions about her situation.
Things at home aren't any easier -- Ebony's mom is very supportive of Ebony's decisions, but Josh's parents are concerned that Josh won't graduate. They treat him like an irresponsible child... which may not be far from the truth. Once Josh hints that he might not really want to get married, Ebony starts to worry about his maturity as well.

Episode 103
16 and PREGNANT - AMBER
Amber is a typical high school senior, hanging with her friends and stirring up trouble in her small town of Anderson, Indiana. She spends most of her time with her boyfriend Gary, who she's been with for almost 3 years. She loves him very much, despite her family's less-than-warm feelings toward him. They never really got over the fact that she snuck behind her older brother's back and stole his best friend as her sweetheart. They're going to have to get used to Gary, though, because...that's right...Amber's pregnant with his baby.

Episode 102
16 and PREGNANT - FARRAH
Farrah is a popular cheerleader at her Council Bluffs, Iowa high school. She has big dreams, and juggles cheer with her job and grades. She's about to take on another responsibility; one that her classmates won't share with her - she's 3 months pregnant. Rumors soon begin to fly among Farrah's cheerleader crowd. It seems that even her closest friend, Zabrina, is turning on her, since her secret's spreading fast. She has to deal with keeping the baby's dad - who has proven unfit to be in the picture - in the dark about her news, and it's getting harder to do with the gossip that's flying around her.

Before she found out she was pregnant, Maci was the classic overachiever from Chattanooga, Tennessee. When her fiancée Ryan takes no interest in helping out with the new baby, Maci has to figure out if her relationship will survive or if she's alone in facing the biggest challenge of her life.

MTV's 16 and Pregnant' is an hour-long documentary series focusing on the controversial subject of teen pregnancy. Each episode follows a 5-7 month period in the life of a teenager as she navigates the bumpy terrain of adolescence, growing pains, rebellion, and coming of age; all while dealing with being pregnant.
Each story offers a unique look into the wide variety of challenges pregnant teens face: marriage, adoption, religion, gossip, finances, rumors among the community, graduating high school, getting (or losing) a job. Faced with incredibly adult decisions, these girls are forced to sacrifice their teenage years and their high school experiences. But there is an optimism among them; they have the dedication to make their lives work, and to do as they see fit to provide the best for their babies.
