Originating from the Bronx, New York City, USA, of Puerto Rican descent, Jennifer Lopez enjoyed great success as an actress before emerging in the late 90s as one of the new wave of Latin pop stars. As a child Lopez appeared in musical theatre, before making her film debut as a 16 year old in the movie "My Little Girl". Her break into television came in 1990 when she won a dance contest to become a Fly Girl on the Fox television comedy series "In Living Color". Further television work ensued, and she made her first major big screen appearance opposite Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson in 1995's "Money Train", before working with director Gregory Nava on "My Family, Mi Familia". Her experience on the latter led indirectly to the high-profile role of murdered Tejano star Selena Quintanilla in the 1997 biopic "Selena". Now considered a major player in Hollywood, her acclaimed appearance opposite George Clooney in 1998's "Out Of Sight" made her the highest paid Latin actress in history.
However with the help of heavyweight producers of the calibre of Emilio Estefan, Rodney Jerkins and Sean "Puffy" Combs, Jennifer turned to her music career in 1999, with her album "On The 6", named after the train line the young Lopez used to take into the city, becoming a big commercial success. The first single "If You Had My Love", topped the US charts for five weeks, and the follow-up, "Waiting For Tonight", was also a transatlantic hit. Next up came her chart-topping second album "J.Lo" which was premiered by the international hit single, "Love Don't Cost A Thing", and led to further success in the form of the singles "Play" and a remix of "I'm Real" featuring Ja Rule.
By now a firm regular on MTV screens Jennifer released her re-mix album, "J To Tha L-O", in March 2002 which with the help of the likes of Ja Rule, Dark Child, Fat Joe and Nas, consolidated her reputation as one of contemporary music's biggest and best stars. With hit releases such as "Ain't It Funny", a collaboration with Ja Rule and "I'm Gonna Be Alright" featuring Nas, the album made US chart history as the only remix album to ever go straight in at number 1, and so far has sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide.
So with her constant skipping between the silver screen and the music world, along with her clothing range and ever pervasive tabloid press coverage, it seems that J-Lo is set for world domination - and with talent galore and an ass like that, who's going to stop her!!
